Low-cost tickets for film score concert
MEMORABLE music from popular films will be performed on Saturday at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center as part of a series of low-price brunch concerts.
The "Hollywood Movies Music Concert" will be presented by the Shanghai ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
Program includes popular selections from the soundtracks of "Schindler's List," "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Red Violin," as well as chamber music played in popular music, including Halvorsen's "Passacaglia in G Minor for Violin and Cello," Schumann's "Piano Quintet," Piazzolla's "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" and "Jasmine Flower."
The Shanghai ProMusica Chamber Orchestra was launched last year, as the successor of the Shanghai Musician Association Chamber Orchestra, which was established in 1983.
Award-winning violinist Wei Meimei is the artistic director of the orchestra that includes both acclaimed veterans and up-and-coming performers from China and other countries.
Though the interest in classical music in China has developed rapidly in the past few years, chamber music is not so well known, according to Wei, citing that as a reason for reorganizing the chamber orchestra.
"Since I spent 24 years studying and performing overseas, I feel obliged to use my experience and do something in my native city," says Wei.
"We look forward to promoting chamber music here; in a few years we'll see huge progress."
Date: September 3, 10am
Venue: Concert Hall of Shanghai Oriental Art Center, 425 Dingxiang Rd, Pudong
Tickets: 30-80 yuan
