Malone's celebrates spirited 2nd birthday

MALONE'S American Cafe at Pudong's Thumb Plaza has celebrated its second birthday.

Packed to the rafters, mostly with expats from businesses across Shanghai, spirits were high on Monday as free-flowing food and drinks were enjoyed by all.

Malone's American-style bar and grill is one of the first of its kind in Shanghai; the first branch opened on Tongren Road in 1994. While similar bars struggled, Malone's successfully identified what the expat community needed.

Good American-style food, cinema-sized screens to watch sports, dart boards, pool tables and a laid-back pub atmosphere continues to make Malone's popular with the ever-expanding expat community.

With its wide selection of American, Tex-Mex and pan-Asian dishes, all served in hearty American-sized portions washed down with a large selection of beers and spirits, Malone's success is unsurprising. Another branch will open this month in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.

Malone's has two Shanghai branches, one on either side of the Huangpu River. The Pudong branch near the World Expo site is set for busy six months or so.

As the Expo coincides with the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games in October, Malone's will be the place to kick back and watch the action unfold after a busy day at the Expo.

Decades dancing parties on April 23 in both branches will stage live rock and pop from the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

A Big Sunday Brunch Buffet will be held in the Pudong branch on April 25. Prices are 200 yuan (US$29.30) for adults, 50 yuan for children.
