Moments frozen in time for posterity

SHANGHAI Daily senior photographer Wang Rongjiang, who is retiring this year, has been recording the people and events of a changing society for the past two decades. His photos record where we have been and what we have done, with a keen eye, professional objectivity and consummate artistry. Every picture is worth a thousand words, capturing the essence of how people enrich and define city life.

Words from the photographer:

As a photographer, I love to focus my lenses on society and its people. These are among my favorite photos in that pursuit.

With the fast development of the Internet, netizens post piles of photos online every day. Yet great, professional photos remain as scarce as ever.

Today, critical thinking is an essential attribute for photographers. A good news photographer needs to be a diligent observer and an independent thinker.
