Music about the moon for Mid-Autumn concert
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 19, Chinese folk songs about the moon and Western classics and modern works will be performed by the Traditional Music Symphony Orchestra.
The performance at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center will be conducted by Fan Tao, a graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music who has cooperated with renowned orchestras around the world. He is known for his expressive style.
The festival is also known as the Moon Festival, when families are reunited, watch the harvest moon together and eat mooncakes.
The program will feature the Chinese songs “The Clouds Chasing the Moon,” “The Moon Represents My Heart” and “The Full Moon and Blooming Flowers.”
The orchestra will also perform Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5,” Johann Strauss I’s “Radetzky March” and famous Russian song “Moscow Nights.”
On October 1, National Day, the orchestra and its ensembles will present a concert of famous film and opera scores. It will include Bizet’s “Carmen Suite” and Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” suite, as well as the tango “Por Una Cabeza” from the film “True Lies” (1994).
