New guide offers latest info in 3D, paintings
AN official, updated Shanghai guidebook featuring paintings and 3D maps will be published late this month and widely available at hotels, airports and foreign-language bookstores.
The English-language "in Shanghai ? City Guide" is edited by the Shanghai Surveying and Mapping Institute and Shanghai People's Publishing House. It's priced at 80 yuan (US$12.32).
Shanghai Daily is the exclusive media partner for the guidebook and will work closely with the institute to promote the guidebook citywide.
"Unlike traditional maps, this city guide features hand painted three-dimensional maps, postcards, a Metro Line index and the most updated information on entertainment, dining, recreation and shopping," says Yang Chen, director of the Branch No. 4 of the mapping institute.
"With more and more overseas tourists coming to Shanghai, it is essential have such a guidebook that can highlight the most attractions in Shanghai," he says.
The portable guidebook has two parts, a picture album and a map.
The pictures cover fine dining, residential lane culture, foreign architecture, the old town and shopping venues. It includes tourist tips, public transport information and notes about traditional Chinese festivals in Shanghai.
It has taken almost eight months for the guidebook's team to assemble the latest and most useful tourism information.
"With hand-painted design and detailed introductions, the colorful guidebook caters to foreigners' tastes and reading habits," says Yang. "Its innovation map design and presentation of content provides the most wanted information for tourists and expats."
He says the survey and map institute will continue to publish new map products in anticipation of a tourism peak predicted when Shanghai Disneyland is completed in the next few years.
