Nutrilite gives the body a boost

IN China, a famous poem reads "Spring breeze brings the splendid pear blossoms overnight," which best describes the expansion of Amway and its products.

It happened all of a sudden. And people are now seen taking Nutrilite vitamin and health supplements, using Amway's household cleaners and applying Artistry cosmetics to their faces around China.

To most people, the word Amway stands for a clean, safe and healthy attitude and lifestyle.

As a direct selling company and manufacturer, Amway sells a wide variety of products, primarily in the health and beauty industry. Founded in 1959, the company is now ranked by Forbes as one of the largest private companies in the United States and by Deloitte as one of the largest retailers in the world.

The company stepped into the Chinese market in 1995. In 2008, Amway China has already become Amway's largest market. Now, Amway is getting involved in the market in a more in-depth way.

Nutrilite, Amway's largest health supplements brand, has established its Nutrilite Experience Center at Shanghai Indoor Stadium.

It came into service on the 75th anniversary of Nutrilite on October 10. Li Xiaopeng and Yang Wei, image ambassadors of Amway Nutrilite and Olympic gold medalists in gymnastics, became the first two to experience the facility.

The Nutrilite Experience Center is one of the gifts given by Amway to Chinese customers as a dedication.

The Experience Center provides high-tech health test equipment including tests for bone density and the condition of arteries. It also provides health consulting services, health education and health interactive games.

"It's a win-win project to the consumer, as to us," said Milton Liao, brand director. "We try to provide education to the customers, we'll let them experience our products and we let them know the secret behind Nutrilite, so that they can trust Nutrilite in a more understanding way."

Nutrilite is also planning to build organic farmsin China.

Nutrilite claims to be the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest and process plants on their own certified organic farms, which are located in California, Washington, Mexico and Brazil.

Although some of their products may have ingredients from plants grown not at their own farms, the farms are held to the same quality standards as Nutrilite's own.

Nutrilite farming techniques include soil solarization, an integrated pest management system and sustainable agricultural production systems.

In China, Nutrilite has already established its own research and development center, with experts in Shanghai studying plants all around the country and studying traditional Chinese medicines.

The primary interest and current focus in the lab is to find ingredients or plants or materials that have preventive qualities.

"It's all about helping people embrace a healthy lifestyle and bringing balance in one's life," said Dr Sam Rehnborg, president of Nutrilite Health Institute.

Dr Sam, as he is affectionately known, is the son of Nutrilite founder, Carl F. Rehnborg, who developed his first multivitamin and multi-mineral product in 1934. Sam joined his father's business in 1964, focusing his efforts on nutritional research, product development and marketing, and later became president and CEO of Nutrilite Products Inc in 1983.

Talking about the secret to good health when attending the opening ceremony of the Nutrilite Experience Center, he said that he had been taking Nutrilite vitamins and supplements for 74 years. Eating better, eating less, exercising, good mental health, understanding one's own lifestyle, and taking total responsibility for oneself is the key. Nutrilite's major events in China

1998

November: Nutrilite came into China and introduced the first nutritious health product - Nutrilite Protein.

2001

January: Amway invited Fu Mingxia, champion diver, to be the image ambassador of Nutrilite, and released the first theme advertisement.

2002

June: Amway held the first Amway Nutrilite Health Run event in Shanghai.

November: Nutrilite Experience Center came into service.

2003

December: Six Nutrilite health products have been selected as officially recognized health products of China's scientific expedition team.

2004

October: Nutrilite celebrated its 70th anniversary in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

2005

September: Amway Nutrilite became a partner of the NBA's China market and was selected as the only officially recognized nutritious health product marketing partner for NBA China.

2006

May-November: The celebrations of the 5th anniversary of Amway Nutrilite Health Run were held in 19 cities.

June-October: 2006 Amway Nutrilite Jr NBA Technique Tournament was held in 15 cities.

2007

January: Amway invited Liu Xiang, world 110-meter champion hurdler, to be the global ambassador of Nutrilite.

2008

November: Amway celebrated the 10th year of Amway Nutrilite's entry into China.

2009

October: Amway celebrated the 75th anniversary of Nutrilite.
