Photo exhibition zooms in on city
FOR a city as large as Shanghai, picking one photo to represent the metropolis may seem impossible.
But that’s just what the “Seeking the Cover of Shanghai” exhibition is all about. The winners from 3,000 submissions are now on display.
In the eyes of many, the Bund clearly represents Shanghai’s past and present. Many of the submissions include the famous stretch along the Huangpu River. Some pictures look at the Bund from the air, others at ground level. Some are at sunrise while others have been taken around sunset. The common element among them is a certain charisma that radiates from the Bund.
Others chose to focus their lens on the city’s rapid urban development. For example, Liu Bingyuan’s “Expectation” captures high-rises under construction overlapped with old Shanghai houses. Its message is clear: although the city develops quickly, Shanghai still retains its elegance and tradition.
