Shanghai dances to legendary tale of Mulan
ACTORS from the China National Opera House and Ningbo Performing Arts Group will bring China’s classic legend “Mulan” to audiences at SAIC Shanghai Culture Square during the China Shanghai International Art Festival.
The Chinese national dance drama is adapted from the story of Hua Mulan, a legendary female warrior from the Northern and Southern dynasties period (AD 420-589).
The drama will reproduce the entire journey where Mulan took part in the war against the Huns.
Mulan fulfilled her filial piety not only by revering her aged father, but by making ultimate sacrifice in disguising as a man to take her father’s place.
Having fought for 12 years and gained high merit, Mulan accomplished her mission, pursued her love, returned home to unite with her family and lived a life with peace and freedom.
Incorporated with numerous technological elements of modern stage, the multimedia dance drama will rebuild a story line of Mulan’s awareness of self-discovery and self-identification, and present a vivid story of the Chinese heroine.
With the tenant of “A Festival of Arts, A Gala for All,” China Shanghai International Arts Festival brings numerous Chinese classic performances including “Treasure the Treasures,” “The Teahouse” and “The Legend of Butterfly Lovers” in the next coming week.
