Something for everyone

THE Jinshan Tourism Festival will offer a wide range of activities through early October, from a wedding party to folk art shows.


Watertown Wedding Party

Date: September 27

Venue: UN Pavilion in Expo site

This will be the first time in six years the traditional wedding bash is held outside Fengjing Town.

Around 20 couples in traditional red silk gowns and bright accessories will have their big day witnessed by Expo visitors offering best wishes.

A big LED screen in the pavilion will broadcast the wedding alive. Couples then will have a parade in the Expo site.

The event is organized by the Jinshan Tourism Bureau, the Jinshan Youth League and the Fengjing Town Government.

Couples are being recruited through next Friday. This year all must be Chinese citizens under 35 years of age and newly wed. Shanghai locals and residents of Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces are preferred.

Each couple will receive a photo album and DVD of the wedding. They also get a watertown wedding certificate, providing free admission to any spot in Fengjing Town for 10 years. Their babies will be invited to town festivals.


Jinshan Folk Art Shows

Date: September 11, 17-18

Venue: Xijiao Bailian Shopping Mall

The gala will include shadow play, lianxiang (a festooned stick) dance and homespun cloth weaving. Jinshan organic agricultural products will be on sale. Tourism information will be available.


Expo Farming Fun

Date: September 25-October 8

Venue: Langxia Village

Visitors can learn how to make the "eyebrow-shaped" dumplings from farmers, weave homespun cloth, dance with lianxiang and many other farming skills. They can rent bikes, tour orchards and fields and pick ripe fruit and vegetables.


Shopping Craze

Date: September 28-October 7

Venue: Bailian Jinshan Shopping Mall

Tel: 5728-2387

Hot hip-hop dance, interactive games, lucky draws and various promotions will be held in the newly opened mall. It's Bailian's largest investment in the suburbs. Children can draw on a 100-meter-long scroll and take part in a skateboard contest.


Tourism Float Parade

Date: September 24

Venue: Fengjing Town

Tel: 5735-5555

This year's Shanghai Tourism Festival will parade through the 1,500-year-old watertown. Local farmers celebrate the festival at their door step.


Photography Contest

Date: through November 30

Venue: Jinshan's various scenic spots

Professionals and amateurs are invited to Jinshan to capture its beauty.
