Superstars' iconic stuff on tour
A gown worn by Princess Diana, a signed guitar played by Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson's white rhinestone glove are among the megastar memorabilia on exhibit through Sunday in Shanghai - on a tour culminating in an auction next month.
"Super Stars' Memorable Collections Exhibition" owned by Ponte 16 resort in Macau is underway at Shanghai's Printemps China Department Store on Zhenhua Road.
The exhibition features more than 100 items belonging to iconic figures.
They include the black velvet and white taffeta gown wore by Princess Diana in 1985, a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film "River of No Return" (1954), a jacket worn by Bruce Lee, as well as costumes and props used by Madonna, The Beatles, Muhammad Ali. There's also one of Elivs' signed guitars.
The exhibition is open only to invitees and customers who spend more than 300 yuan (US$47) at the store.
The highlight of the exhibition is MJ's white rhinestone glove worn when he premiered his trademark Moonwalk Dance in 1983. It's the most expensive item in the exhibition, and the value now is at least US$500,000, according to Dr Hoffman Ma, deputy CEO of Ponte 16 Macau.
The total value of the 100-plus exhibits is over US$1.2 million.
Most of the items are provided and collected by Julien's Auctions, and 30 percents are Michael Jackson's items.
All these exhibits will be auctioned off at the Legends Auction in Macau, except MJ's white rhinestone glove.
Shanghai is the second stop on the tour organized by New World Department Store China Ltd.
It kicked off in Beijing and will later go to Tianjin, Shenyang in Liaoning Province and Harbin in Heilongjiang Province.
Date: Through September 18
