Taking aim at summer sports: archery, cricket and squash

IF you don't feel like splashing around in a swimming pool, there are plenty of other sports, indoor and outdoor, like squash, archery and cricket. Kat Jiang checks her racket, strings a bow and grabs the bat. Other ideas: Tennis - If you're fed up with watching tennis on TV, try your hand at playing it. Lots of local universities and outdoor stadiums have tennis courts. If the weather is terrible you should be able to find a court in your nearest leisure center.

Rugby - If the Super Bowl on TV sparked your interest, community rugby clubs are now available in Shanghai.

Riding, rolling, and wheeling - They are most excellent ways to get healthy and fun.

Kick your way fit - Martial arts are a great way to tone up your whole body and learn a new skill.

Swimming - It isn't just for summer. Lots of local leisure centers have pools where you can splash around or swim serious lengths.

Want something different? You can go karting, cycling and horse riding in Shanghai, just get out of the air-con rooms.
