鈥楾he Hummingbird Project鈥 to strike a chord with viewers in China

鈥淭he Hummingbird Project,鈥 a Canadian-Belgian thriller about finance and technology, will hit cinemas across China today.

The film was written and directed by Kim Nguyen, whose child soldier drama 鈥淩ebelle鈥 was nominated for best foreign-language film at the 85th Academy Awards.

鈥淭he Hummingbird Project鈥 stars American actor Jesse Eisenberg, known for his roles in 鈥淭he Social Network鈥 and 鈥淣ow You See Me,鈥 Emmy award winner Alexander Skarsgard, Michael Mando and Salma Hayek.

The story centers on two cousins鈥 quest to build a fiber-optic cable between Kansas and New Jersey for high-frequency trading, which would provide them with instant financial market data and huge profits. However, the project isn鈥檛 as easy and smooth as they expect.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and attracted some attention from studios because of its cast and subject matter..

In recent years, an array of critically acclaimed foreign films have been released in China, including 鈥淕reen Book,鈥 鈥淭hree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri鈥 and 鈥淧erfect Stranger.鈥
