‘The New Reality’ honors young Chinese artists
ORGANIZED by Porsche and the Cc Foundation, the 2018-2019 Porsche Young Chinese Artist of the Year Exhibition is on display at TX Huaihai.
Titled “The New Reality,” the exhibition, free of charge, runs through September 20 and features artworks created by the four award-winning artists: Chen Baoyang, Liu Wa, Liu Xinyi and Miao Ying.
Early this month, Porsche China and ART021 jointly launched the Art Healing project, which provides a therapeutic platform for healing spiritual trauma and alleviating emotional stress.
“The New Reality” showcases works by the four young artists, who share their perspectives on social issues through various artistic mediums. Liu’s mediums include installations, moving and static images, and context-specific art. Her large, site-specific installation “Air Port” transforms the space into a deserted airport terminal, one of the most visible manifestations of the pandemic.
Miao explores the ways of how technology affects our daily lives with a three-channel video “Aphasia,” which illustrates the eye-opening results of computer simulation models that formulate incomprehensible text by imitating certain human speech patterns.
“This exhibition not only reflects the innovative and progressive way of pondering of the young artists, but also brings diverse perspectives of the pandemic to the public,” said Kylle Ying, co-founder of ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair. “Everyone is born to be good at expressing and listening. Art is undoubtedly the best remedy for people who have experienced trauma.”
