The best of Bollywood spectaculars

WHEN it's comes to India, people think of yoga, curry and particularly energetic and spectacular Bollywood movies. They are extravaganzas of song and dance.

Performers from India's noted Zee Group will perform next Tuesday at the Majestic Theater.

It will be the group's first China performance and it will recreate passionate scenes from the classics with lavish costumes and sets.

The show will feature famous scenes from "Awara," "Devdas" and "Caravan," the traditional Indian foot-ring dance and thousand-hand Buddha dance.

Additionally, the dance sequence at the end of Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" will also be reproduced in the climax to the show.

It features 36 performers and more than 300 sets of lavish costumes, says Jiang Dongliang, director of Langyu Communication, the organizer.

Many of the performers starred in successful Indian film and TV dramas.

"The show also pays tribute to next year's 60th anniversary of Sino-India diplomatic relations," says Jiang.

Another highlight of the performance will be its soft incorporation of Chinese folk music elements. In several episodes, the dancers are accompanied by famous Chinese songs, "What a Beautiful Jasmine Flower" and "Kangding Love Song."

There will be a lucky draw: first prize is a free Indian tour package.
