The face of TV

CHINESE American Yue-Sai Kan is a legendary TV personality, best-selling author and successful entrepreneur. In 1986, the television series "One World," produced and hosted by Kan, was aired on China's national television network CCTV, giving millions the first glimpse of the outside world and making her a household name in China.

In the early 1990s, she founded the Yue-Sai cosmetics brand, which has drastically changed Chinese people's idea of beauty. "I changed the entire perception of what beauty is," she once said. "When I launched Yu-Sai Cosmetics, no one was used to make up in China. When I wrote my first book on cosmetics, it was the first book written to teach Asian women how to make up and to show their Asian beauty."

In subsequent years, her unique hairstyle has been copied, dolls have been made in her image, and her face has appeared on postage stamps -- she is the first and only living American featured on a Chinese postage stamp.

From 2005 to 2008, Kan's lifestyle television series "Yue-Sai's World" was aired nationally in China, in which she introduced internationally renowned figures such as Catherine Deneuve, Queen Noor, Jean Paul Gaultier, Julio Iglesias and Naomi Campbell.

Her latest entrepreneurial adventure is "House of Yue-Sai," an East-meets-West lifestyle retail concept aiming to bring style, elegance and inspiration to Chinese consumers.

"My life is just full of adventures," she said. "Some people like to go bungee jumping, and some like to climb rocky mountains. I think I'm already doing all this because every time when I embark on a new project, it feels like I'm bungee jumping."
