The latest amazing race: 'China Rush'

THE Amazing Race: China Rush" - the bigger and better "Shanghai Rush" - will begin airing on August 8 on International Channel Shanghai.

The new 12-episode series with 10 teams builds on last year's popular ICS reality show "Shanghai Rush" and broadens to include famous Chinese cities.

The aim is to promote Chinese culture and the World Expo theme "Better City, Better Life" through exciting outdoor competitions, a daunting mission for each city.

Recruitment attracted thousands of applicants from more than 40 countries and regions.

Tough auditions narrowed the field to 10 two-person teams from Australia, Canada, England, India, Kenya, Latvia, Mexico, and the United States. They will start from the World Expo site and travel around China.

The teams include longtime running partners from England and the United States who work and live in Shanghai; an Australian team who rode motorcycles through the Himalayan foothills and camels in the Sahara Desert; and a couple of American lovers who are enthusiastic about China.

In Hamilton-sponsored "China Rush," a team will be eliminated in each round in which contestants test their knowledge, savvy, reactions, communication and teamwork.

"The show aims to demonstrate China's brilliant culture, custom, economic achievements and Chinese people's hospitality to people around the world," says Sun Wei, director of ICS.

The show's format is based on Disney ABC International Television's reality show "The Amazing Race," which became famous worldwide and won Emmy Awards for seven years for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.

ICS has acquired the rights to produce a version and DAIT will work with TV experts to ensure the show captures the excitement of the original while tapping into China.

ICS also launched a new live show "Expo360" taking visitors inside each pavilion for a look at exhibits, people and society.

It is airing now from Monday through Friday at 8pm.

It includes segments such as the "ICS Expo Index" and "My Expo Moment" providing useful information about pavilions, events, eating, weather, traffic and crowds.

Also during the Expo, Dragon TV and Tudou.com will offer specialprograms about environmental issues, sustainable living and "green" innovative technology.

Chinese celebrity TV anchors will guide the audience around the Expo site to discover low-carbon strategies. Netizens can upload their original short videos depicting people around them who adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.
