US Week makes a massive splash at Xintiandi
PERFORMANCES from Dance America! and "Sesame Street" characters prove irresistible at Xintiandi, reports Xu Wei.
The US Week at Xintiandi in downtown Shanghai brought laughter, fun and learning opportunities to children.
The week, held on August 23-29, was co-organized by Shui On Land and Sesame Street Workshop, which has presented the popular TV program for the past 40 years.
The event was part of Xintiandi's "Mini Expo" series.
The week featured performances by Sesame Street characters and Dance America!, a famous troupe, at Xintiandi's South Plaza.
Meanwhile, Sesame Street Workshop also prepared a family party for everyone. Well-known "Sesame Street" characters, including Elmo, Cookie Monster, Little Plum, Abby and Big Bird and others, were there to meet fans. The characters also sang and danced to the delight of little ones in attendance.
Since November 10, 1969, millions of children around the world have grown up with "Sesame Street." The show is broadcast in 140 countries and regions.
It has won 131 Emmy Awards, according to China.org.cn. It is loved by children because it's fun and creative. It is popular with parents because it teaches young children in an engaging way.
The Dance America! troupe provided an energetic show that was much enjoyed by people of all ages.
According to officials from the USA Pavilion, they are proud to have Dance America! as cultural ambassador at Xintiandi, giving people the chance to experience the passion and creativity of American artists.
The dancers did their own choreography, combining each performer's individual style into one piece offering spectators a chance to experience the fresh "edge" of contemporary American dance.
The USA Pavilion at World Expo 2010 is committed to promoting cultural exchanges between China and the United States. So far, the pavilion has received more than 4 million visitors.
