WGC-HSBC Champions tees off

THE 15th World Gold Championships — HSBC Champions tees off on October 31 in Shanghai.

The Open champion Shane Lowry, 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed, multiple major winners Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia are just some of the star-studded names who will compete for the coveted trophy.

Lowry won his first major at Royal Portrush earlier this summer, ensuring a fairy tale ending to what was The Open’s first visit to Ireland since 1951.

“I am looking forward to turning up in Shanghai as a major champion to compete for the final World Golf Championships title of the year,” said Lowry.

“It has been a very special time since winning The Open and I have honestly enjoyed every minute of it.

“However, with the European Ryder Cup qualifying process kicking off earlier this month, I am now looking to finish the season on a high and the WGC-HSBC Champions is where I have all my focus.”

Along with these top stars joining, “Asia’s Major” is bound to bring an exciting feast for all golf enthusiasts. WeChat has announced a new partnership initiative with the WGC-HSBC Champions to launch a bespoke mini game ahead of the 2019 tournament, which is designed to be simple and intuitive for the golfing and non-golfing audience.

The mini game will feature four seasons, each of two weeks, with the winners of each season receiving an invitation to compete at the Grand Finals held on-site at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai during the tournament.

Top scorers in each season also stand to win a range of prizes from tournament sponsors such as Descente apparel, WeChat merchandise, Mercedes-Benz gifts, Nei Can Baijiu prizes, VOSS Water redemption vouchers and TaylorMade golf products.

Tickets: There’s an early bird discount of 25 percent off from October 1 to 27.

Juniors aged 18 years and under can enter for free when accompanied by a ticketed adult with additional discounts also available for students and families.
