Cat food donated for 'cat kids'

SECOND Chance Animal Aid Shanghai and Whiskas cat food company have donated food for more than 150 stray cats at a shelter in Baoshan District.

The shelter owner calls the animals his "cat kids."

"These cats used to live in misery on the street and are badly in need of care and love," says an animal aid representative from SCAA, referring to the food donation made last Friday.

"We are doing everything we can to improve their welfare, facilities and services. We want them to live a happy and healthy life."

SCAA was established in 2005 as a private, non-profit organization committed to protecting and improving the health and welfare of companion animals. It raises funds to support animal welfare projects in Shanghai.

Huang Yunhao, 56, the shelter's owner, has been taking in street cats and abandoned cats for more than 16 years. In order to provide his "cat kids" a home, he sold his two apartments, despite his family's opposition.

"They are my family now. In my eyes, they are my children, my most-cherished friends," Huang says. "I'm so grateful for all the support from the caring volunteers and pet lovers."
