Freeing China-bound turtles
MORE than 1,600 turtles in the US state of Tennessee have made a slow but effective escape from a farm where they are raised for sale to pet-raising operations and for export to China.
Turtle farmer David Turner said he believes vandals were to blame last week for tearing down fences around turtle ponds, where 2,200 turtles were being raised.
The amphibians made a beeline to nearby ponds and creeks.
A search party is looking for the escapees.
