Bunnies bounce in to egg Easter on
EASTER gets an extra bounce at Shanghai Times Square this year with eggs and rabbits designed by the famous Japanese artist and photographer Hiroshi Watanabe. Xu Wei checks it out Easter is here in a few days heralding the arrival of spring blooms and fresh beginnings.
Shanghai Times Square has been decorated with a "Happy Easter" theme with Easter eggs and rabbits ready to welcome Easter Sunday.
The cute and original Easter rabbits were designed by the famous Japanese illustrator and photographer Hiroshi Watanabe. The artist, who graduated from Osaka Art University, has won many prestigious design competitions, including the New York ADC Award and the JPC Section Prize.
He uses pastels to present a mood of softness and harmony and with this method he creates a unique fantasy world.
On Sunday afternoon, a party for Chinese and foreign children will be thrown in the mall to celebrate Easter. The event will feature rabbit painting as taught by the Japanese artist and children's performances.
During Easter, Shanghai Times Square will stage a series of colorful events. Through next Monday, any purchase worth 1,500 yuan (US$220) will come with a bonus rabbit designed by Watanabe.
"We would like to encourage the public to enjoy life with an optimistic attitude and encourage children to be creative from childhood," says Cathy Hau, deputy general manager of Shanghai Times Square.
Music lovers will also be offered a fabulous and creative German concert by the North Rhine Westphalia Youth Jazz Orchestra next Wednesday.
The musicians from Germany will present a series of famous masterpieces such as "Awakening," "Sancho," "Fragile," "Melodies from Turandot", "Carmen," "Sco Jam" and "Birdland."
Since its establishment in 1975, the jazz orchestra has made a name for itself by performing extraordinary and innovative projects. The orchestra gives concerts throughout the world and has toured Turkey, Africa, the Caribbean, Australia and India.
According to Hau, the concert is part of the square's yearly cultural program with the theme "Art Life, Life Art." After this concert, there will be several art events like the Bulgarian Art Exhibition in May.
