Chilly summer ahead with ‘Ice Age’ production
THE popular characters from the “Ice Age” series of animated movies are heading to Shanghai this summer for “Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure.”
The show combines film, acrobatics, figure skating and dance with more than 40 artists and performers taking part in the production.
Over the past three years, the show has been staged in more than 30 countries and regions.
Now it’s coming to Asia for the first time.
Guy Caron, the show’s creative director, was Cirque du Soleil’s first artistic director and the founder of Montreal’s National Circus School.
Caron and his team take audiences on an all new adventure with Sid, Manny, Diego, and that nutty but lovable squirrel Scrat.
The story centers on little mammoth Peaches, who is kidnapped by an evil bird named Shadow.
Manny, Sid and Diego embark on an adventure to rescue her, but on their way home an avalanched knocks them into an underground kingdom.
He Bin, one of the organizers of the China tour, says “Ice Age Live!” is for the whole family.
“The film series has a large fan base in China and the tour will include around 70 performances between August and October,” says He, noting they will also stop in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Beijing. “It will be the most performances of the show in a single country.”
Former figure skating world champion Zhang Dan, who attended the show’s press conference in Shanghai this week, says she is a big fan of the movies.
“I can’t wait to dance on ice with the cute squirrel Scrat,” she says.
Fans can also look forward to many new characters with different personalities.
