Chinese inspiration for Danish group
MICHAEL Learns to Rock has been inspired by China.
The Danish band will be in Shanghai on Sunday for an acoustic concert at Shanghai International Gymnastic Center. They plan to perform a cover version of "Fairy Tale," a song originally performed by singer Li Jian. The tune gained nationwide popularity after Hong Kong pop diva Faye Wong performed it during the 2010 Spring Festival Gala Show on CCTV earlier this year.
Michael Learns to Rock singer and keyboardist Jascha Richter says the band was touched by the melody and decided to work on a cover version of "Fairy Tale."
"We picked the song for our Chinese fans," Richter says. "It will be first staged here in China."
The song will also be included in their new album, which is expected to be released soon.
The band has been inspired by Chinese songs in the past. They have also covered Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung's "Take Me to Your Heart," which has helped them attract fans across Asia. They will likely include this fan favorite on Sunday's playlist along with their original song Apart "That's Why You Go Away."
Richter says the idea for an acoustic tour popped up last year and gives the band a chance to do something different.
"The big difference is that we do not bring many instruments, and that we are only three persons on stage," he says. "The atmosphere is very intimate and we can chat with our audience."
Michael Learns to Rock is a pop-soft rock band that also includes drummer Kare Wanscher and bassist Soren Madsen.
The band has sold more than 10 million records worldwide, largely in Asia, after forming in 1988. They are known for their soft and peaceful melodies and lyrics that are easy to learn and sing.

Address: 777 Wuyi Rd
