Exhibition of sculpture and painting by Tian Yuemin
An exhibition of sculptures and paintings by distinguished artist Tian Yuemin will be held at Jiangsu Art Gallery in Nanjing from December 21-29.
More than 140 works will be showcased, including some of Tian’s most recent and celebrated works.
The exhibition is co-hosted by Beijing Zhong Nan Ming Hai Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Hong Kong Asian Art Treasure Exhibition Center, Shanghai Mycenae Artwork Co Ltd, Zhong Zhi Ji Guan Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Tatwah Smartech Co Ltd, and Zhongshan Karry Printing Co Ltd.
The historical city of Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu Province, is an important stop in Tian’s 2013 world tour.
Tian, a native of Shandong Province, has been praised by many of China’s modern masters of sculpture, such as Liu Kaiqu, Cheng Yunxian, Liu Lin and Pan He.
Tian refined his realist approach to art under influence of his early impressionist oil painting training. His style has been called “distinct and sublime.”
The exhibition provides a well-structured anthology of Tian’s art.
Tian rose to fame through his sculpture and recently became renowned in Chinese traditional painting. His work ethic and artistic instinct took him beyond what had been his comfort zone, to find a new medium in painting.
His bold, stylistic strokes convey the expression of an accomplished artist and are typically seen in three-dimensional work. In the view of Tian’s son, the line between sculpture and painting began to blur since he began to sketch every day after work.
Every year Tian draws more than 10,000 sketches, in addition to his work as a sculptor. Tian transformed the creative process of art as the imitation of nature and reflection of the artist’s perspectives.
The impressive quantity of sketches is the metamorphosis of his career; he started to speak differently about art because his transition from observation to creation became seamless. He painted and sculpted differently because of his mastery in capturing and narrating shapes and shades.
He became a different artist, an Artist, because there is a sense of “return” to the purer and simpler forms of beauty.
The gallery invites viewers to explore and discuss the essence of art, the artist, and beauty. Tian’s work and wisdom will complement the exploration.
Michelangelo used to say, “An artist must have his measuring tools, not in the hand, but in the eyes.”
Tian and his art exemplify the words of the master. His intuition and spirit of creativity are among the cornerstones of his success.
The exhibition’s major host is Mycenae Artwork Co, which is involved in exhibitions, collecting, consulting and retailing. Tian is one of many veteran artists it supports. It aims to introduce Chinese artists, creative industries and institutions to an international audience.
