Group gets back to basics
"ON Paper," a group exhibition of works, features Yu Youhan, Li Shan, Shen Fan, Tang Guo, Xue Song, Jin Weihong, Wu Yiming, Xiang Liqing and Armen Eloyan and is on display at 796 Huaihai Road M.
The show comprises a range of styles and strategies depicted on paper within highly personal investigation into the abstract, the pictorial and the personal.
Many of the artists are well known in the local art community.
Perhaps due to the world economic downturn, the daunting price of their art pieces are beyond the means of most ordinary collectors.
But their paper works might offer a chance to own their works at an affordable price, ranging from 7,000 yuan (US$1,024) to 50,000 yuan each.
Jin Weihong documents beauty and whimsy in her imaginative, meticulously crafted elegant series.
Xue Song's narrative images capture passing fancies with sharp wit, reflecting upon the world around us, especially focusing on contemporary Shanghai.
Others extract from unconscious, revealing internal worlds.
Armen Eloyan's playful cartoons meld dreams and nightmares, myth and memory.
Wu Yiming characterizes the interplay of history, observation and tradition, which is also evident in the work of Shen Fan.
Ding Yi, Tang Guo, Yu Youhan and Xiang Liqing's illustrations are held in strictly elegant and abstract patterns through individual aesthetic ways.
The panorama of works presented is also another opportunity for the artists to display their thoughts on paper.
Sometimes the most simple art medium can be as direct and pure as any other.
Date: through August 31, 12pm-12am
