Painting life in blue, red and yellow
BLUE, red and yellow are the colors of Zheng Rongrong's "Journey of the Soul," abstract oils and water-colors in a solo exhibition at Xintiandi.
Zheng has worked in advertising, fashion design and photography, so she isn't well known inside the art community.
"Perhaps that's why I dare to expose everything I have experienced to the public," says Zheng.
The exhibit is comprised of blue, red and yellow series.
The blue period reflects the Pacific Ocean and the days when she lived in a small town near San Francisco, California.
"I was consumed by the overwhelming presence of the sea and I felt a profound power flowing from the horizon and merging into the sky, especially at night," she says.
For many artists, abstract painting is a direct involvement with colors and shapes. For Zheng, it is more involved with colors and hues that mingle with her travels.
Similarly, her red series is inspired by her time near a Canadian vineyard and the yellow series evokes memories of New Zealand.
Zheng, who is single and in her late 30s, says, "You could say I am the type of woman who has stories. My rich life experience enables me to find the real beauty and harmony in nature."
"My friends say I am incredibly energetic. I always think life is too short and I want to fully savor all the pains and joys in my ephemeral life."
She paints in striking and brilliant colors and creates blurred shapes like clouds and mist.
"I was once deeply hurt by someone who I nearly gave my heart and soul to," she says. "Fortunately, I have never lost my faith in love.
"I'll tell you a secret: when you are blue, just look up at the azure sky and you will understand how beautiful life is."
