Rich concert by Croatian pianist
CROATIAN pianist Maksim Mrvica - both a virtuoso and a handsome one at that - will perform classical, crossover and contemporary at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on December 5.
The Shanghai concert, party of a 12-city tour, will feature numerous short works, including Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee," contemporary Croatian composer Tonci Huljic's "Kolibre," Saint-Saens' "Carnival," Huljic's "Tramuntana," Tchaikovsky's "Dumka" and Bizet's "Carmen."
The classical section will feature Brahms' "Rhapsody," Bach's "Toccata and Fugue" and Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme by Paganini, plus Chopin to "pay homage to the maestro."
He will also play the theme to the movie "Exodus."
Mrvica started playing the piano at the age of nine and gave his first public performance that year. Three years later he gave his first concert performance of Haydn's "Piano Concerto in C Major."
In May he performed at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai to celebrate the Croatia National Pavilion Day.
"The program in this tour is specially arranged for Chinese fans," Mrvica told a press conference in Shanghai last month.Mrvica is known for his technical virtuosity and performance of classical crossover works, combined with classical and contemporary piano works.
Mrvica released an album "The Piano Player" in 2003, which gave a new spin works by Handel and Chopin. It achieved gold status in China and other countries and double platinum in Hong Kong.
"I look forward to meeting more classical music fans in so many cities in China, and I hope they will enjoy my concerts," says Mrvica.
