Skate park to rock with X-sports and live bands
A CARNIVAL for fans of extreme sports and music will be held tomorrow at the Shanghai SMP Skate Park in New Jiangwan Town of northeastern Shanghai's Yangpu District, one of the world's largest and most modern.
The 2009 Mountain Dew Shanghai Extreme Sports and Music Festival runs from 10:30am to 8:30pm.
The festival has three parts - live music and battle of the bands, extreme sports, and activities celebrating National Day and recruiting volunteers for World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
These events are organized by the Shanghai Extreme Sports Association and the International Channel of Shanghai (ICS).
In the "battle of the bands" section, there will be no professional judges. The audience will determine the winners by applauding and cheering. When each band plays, equipment will record the decibels of the audience's cheers.
In the "extreme sports" section, players from around the world will compete in three events - park skateboard, park BMX and park inline. Anyone can compete, there's no charge. Those who are interested can download the application and submit it before 5pm today.
Shanghai SMP Skate Park covers more than 13,700 square meters and has state-of-the-art facilities for various sports.
The sports plaza can hold over 3,000 audiences at the same time, and the 46-meter-long, half-pipe, U-shaped ramp is the largest in the world to date.
The park is the only sports arena in Shanghai listed in the Guinness World Records.
