Song ignites flame of love with 'king of singers'
AT the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games last August, Spanish tenor Placido Domingo and Chinese folk singer Song Zuying performed the song "Flame of Love."
Next month, at the Shanghai Grand Stage, the "Flame of Love" will be rekindled by the two singers, especially for the upcoming World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
The Symphony Orchestra of Shanghai Opera House will be directed by conductor Eugene Kohn.
"I have performed in Shanghai before and it's an impressive city. I like it and hope I can perform there again," said Domingo recently.
The 68-year-old tenor has been referred to as "the king of the singers" along with the other two tenors - Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007).
Domingo is known for his versatile and strong voice, with a ringing and dramatic tone. In March 2008, he debuted in his 128th opera role.
In addition to his singing roles, Domingo has also taken on conducting opera and concert performances, as well as serving as director general of the Washington National Opera and the Los Angeles Opera.
Domingo is now the only one of "the three kings" still performing on the world stage. His concert schedule includes more than 40 performances a year.
Domingo is confident in his coming show in Shanghai. "It is the happiest and luckiest thing to play so many roles on the stage. I hope to give a brilliant show to the audience in Shanghai," he says.
