The Drops to 'drop in' at JZ Club
FRENCH contemporary jazz trio The Drops makes its Shanghai debut next Tuesday night at the JZ Club.
The project of "The Drops" was started at the end of 2008 in Paris by French saxophonist Cristophe Panzani and Italian guitarist Federico Casagrande. Both are noted musicians who have played in various groups touring the world.
They have been musical partners for a long time, both of them influenced by rock and pop in their jazz language, so they decided to put their energy into a new band. Then they were joined by French drummer Gautier Garrigue, a noted new-generation musician.
The band's name The Drops symbolizes each human being's individuality and coexistence as part of the cosmic flux. The same thing happens when a drop of water loses its own boundaries once it is in the sea, but it still exists, according to Panzani.
This band has been compared to "a scattering rain that becomes a tempestuous river," according to French music critic Pascal Derathé.
This is the band's first Asia tour and it includes Chinese cities on the mainland and in Taiwan.
The band's first album "Falling from the Sky" was released in 2010. It has been described as "discreetly charming, with an intimate melody that will sing within listeners."
The band has performed in France, Italy, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Macedonia. They recorded their second album wit Ferenc Nemethon drums.
