Small acts of kindness go a long way

Young people and their parents in Putuo District’s Changzheng Town are helping others in small but meaningful ways this summer.

Children are taking part in storytelling events for younger children under three years old at the community center. They are working as a library for a day. Parents and children are recycling used items, exchanging them and making donations for others who are in need.

The community initiative encourages both parents and children to give back to the community and so far more than 300 parents have volunteered in 20 projects.

Changzheng Town encourages people to use their spare to time to help others and uses a microblog to get people involved and share their experience with others.

The Changzheng Community Activity Center has printed a practical handbook on community projects, which is distributed to all schools in the district.

Meanwhile, in Caoyang subdistrict, students took part in a range of activities through August 18, including football, Shanghai dialect class and trips to the Shanghai China Art Museum.
