Technology has been a very important aspect in our daily lives, we see them everywhere. Some even say that they cannot survive without their phones. But what will our opinions be when it comes to an AI family member?
Imagine one day your mother tells you “I’ll be away for a long time, so here’s an AI edition of me, she can take care of you.” Even with the highest technology nowadays, we cannot make a robot that looks exactly like human, that leads to a mental problem called the Terror Valley Effect, the more it is like human, the more we’ll be scared of it. This effect has already spread and has become difficult to mitigate due to its complexity.
But there are more reasons why I have a negative opinion on an AI family member. The human brain can be one of the most sophisticated objects in the entire known universe. However everything a robot knows is programmed first and for safety issues it doesn’t have the ability to self-upgrade, it means it can neither create a new musical instrument nor come up with a scheme, you may say we’re having fun talking to ChatGPT but it is always better to stay with somebody with different emotions.
Speaking of emotions, I believe every one of us enjoy watching movies, what’s the difference between an ordinary actor and an Oscar winner? The wonderful act of Joaquin Phoenix in the film “Joker” Created the atmosphere of a man in the bottom of the society. The so-called greatest works of art can all express a feeling, it may not be the real emotions of the creator but the feelings, the radical thoughts made the masterpiece alive and played the role of our companions. Imitating is elaborate. Maybe Elvis Presley can make himself one of the greatest singers throughout history by publishing a cover version of other original songs, but the stereotype of AI makes the thought of AI family members a plan which is bound to fail in the times now.
I mean no harm to the modern technologies but every detail is slowly making the advanced project become impossible. AI is not invincible, it can change our lives somehow, but the real love and attachment is the ones we really need to treasure.
