Balancing act - grades and servicea

GOING to a good university is something I have always dreamed of: Yale, Harvard, Princeton. However, to get into a good university, we have to have a good balance of academic studies and community service or student council work at school.

Being on the student council involves two very basic important elements: responsibility and commitment. We have to balance our academic work with the time taken during student council meetings and the activities the student council has planned for the councillors to do. Once in a while, we have to skip classes to help out at other levels in big activities such as planning for camps or dances, and that is when the word "responsibility" plays its role in our lives. We have to ask our teachers what lessons we've missed and what homework we have yet to do. Student councilors also have to catch up with topics they may have missed during their student council activities and seek help from anyone they know if they do not understand the topics. In addition, student councilors have to be committed to their roles and responsibilities. Usually there are a lot of meetings held after school, and we have to attend them in order to know what's happening around our learning environment and how we are able to improve them. These meetings usually occur after school and indeed last about an hour and a half.

Besides being on the student council and helping to improve the school environment, I believe having good grades is also another important factor that might affect my future university choices. Even if we may be good in one subject only, we should try to be an all-rounder for everything too. That way, the choices for applying for a university in the future may widen more for us.

All in all, proper time management helps us balance both our community service and academic studies, and in my opinion, being about to manage time well is the most important factor we must master to be good in everything. I mean, if you're good in your studies and you don't have proper time management, how are you going to do some environmental and service work too?
