Dancing helps me in so many ways

There is a lot of after school activities for students to learn a variety of things at Shanghai Community International School. Dance ensemble is one of the after school activities which is famous, popular and my most favorite activity.

On December 11 and 13, we gave performances of "The Nut Cracker." They were amazing. To be in this show we had to take an audition to get a role and we stayed after school two days a week for two months to rehearse.

I wanted to be in this activity because I love to be on stage as a dancer and it was based on modern contemporary, my favorite genre of dance. I loved everything about what we were doing because I was so excited to learn about choreography and dance with my close friends. But mostly, dancing made me forget everything else, easing my stressful mind.

Also, at the beginning of the rehearsals we always had gyrokinesis warm-up, which makes my body feel more comfortable and it's a great way to prevent injuries. By doing the gyrokinesis warm-up my body became more flexible and supple. I had more concentration while I was preparing for the show because I realized I need to be nervous to have better concentration on stage to not make any mistakes. Now when I solve any math problems I have better concentration because I know how to control myself.

Communication was also very important because I wasn't the only person on stage. I had to keep communicating with the other dancers to make a good harmony. I think it's great to have an opportunity to be in a dance ensemble with friends. We can have closer friendships by performing together. As long as it's one of our school's after school activities we don't need to pay or go to another place.

I think it's very nice to perform in front of people who I mostly know as they can see how talented we are. Dancing makes me happy and offers so many positives that affect other areas of my life.
