Foundation to help women and children

A foundation to help women and children around the world was launched recently by the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and US-based Pearl S. Buck International.

The joint foundation will also promote cultural exchange and understanding among people from different cultures. Janet L Mintzer, president of Pearl S Buck International, says: "I believe that we can build a world with new possibilities."

Both the Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Pearl S. Buck International were established by great women in the 19th century.

Soong and Buck worked together for the first time in the 1940s when Soong invited Buck, along with Chinese writers Hu Shi and Lin Yutang, to collect money for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in China.

The new joint foundation will focus on helping children in trouble and will be administered by a joint management committee representing the Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Pearl S. Buck International.
