Graduates on the go after a YCIS education

THE Yew Chung International School of Shanghai International Baccalaureate graduates from the class of 2009 walked across the stage at the Marriott Hotel Hongqiao on June 5, in a formal ceremony to collect their well-earned diplomas and begin their journey into adulthood.

Working diligently over the past two years completing the IB Diploma Program was not an easy task and required a great deal of effort and concentration.

The celebrations were attended by representatives from the Yew Chung Education Foundation in Hong Kong, as well as the secondary faculty, school leaders, family and friends.

This year's valedictorian Arnaud Cohade is evidence of the global opportunities available to a YCIS graduate. In the autumn Cohade will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, studying economics, international relations and Mandarin within the Huntsman Program.

Arnaud says: "These past three years in YCIS have definitely been the highlight of my life. Although the two years I spent in the school's IB program were rigorous and demanding, I believe it helped prepare me for what's to come. Having to juggle between school work, sport commitments and my friends brought my time management to a whole new level. I am also so grateful to the IB teachers who taught and supported me with endless dedication over the past two years. They were instrumental in leading me through the intense journey of the IB."

With a multicultural staff and a diverse student body representing over 45 countries and regions, each YCIS student has the opportunity to expand their world view and learn invaluable lessons that will benefit them through university and into adult life. Students study under the comprehensive, intense and rewarding IB Diploma Program, a two-year research-based curriculum which has a 40-year track record and is globally accepted and respected by top tertiary institutions. YCIS combines the program with a unique emphasis on Chinese language and cultural acquisition, providing students with the necessary skills for success in this rapidly changing world. YCIS first implemented the IBDP six years ago to give its students a more challenging educational experience. While many international schools in the city are implementing the IBDP, few have as mature and tested a program as YCIS. The school's faculty is highly experienced, qualified and adept at teaching the curriculum and preparing students to excel academically as evidenced by test scores which are consistently above the world average.

The graduating students will be greatly missed by both the student body and faculty as they move on to study at many reputable academic institutions around the world. From applying to attending, the students have considered and selected universities from all over the world ranging from Singapore to the Netherlands, the United States and the United Kingdom.

We wish them the best of luck and much success on their path to pursuing their dreams.
