Having a ball while playing the ball

THE current basketball team is probably the best team that we have had in the four years that I have been at BISS Puxi. Even though there were some ups and downs throughout the season, I was really glad that the season ended on a high note.

The team this season had a completely revamped look from last year with only a few members from last year's team participating combined with a number of fresh recruits.

It took a few games to get into our rhythm and get the players to gel into our system of play but, when we played well as a team, we proved that we could beat any opposition.

The highest note mid-season would be the team's win against Shanghai American School Puxi in a thrilling encounter. However, following this, things started to go slightly off-track and the team suffered a few consecutive losses on a trot.

The team soon bounced back in time for the SISAC Division 1 tournament where I felt that the team performed admirably and tried their very hardest.

Then came the ACAMIS Division 3 tournament the following weekend. This division contained teams from Qingdao (Shandong Province), Xiamen (Fujian Province), Tianjin and other international schools all across China.

The quality of basketball throughout the tournament was exemplary from all the teams. Even so, our team played the best basketball yet, recording no defeats throughout the tournament and eventually winning the final to claim the ACAMIS Division 3 basketball crown. This was the biggest achievement of any basketball team in the school's brief but rich history.

I feel that this team has the right balance of experience and youth, combined with wealth of basketball knowledge that came from our coaches, Mr Lister and Mr Harriott.

I would like to thank our coaches for guiding us, Mr Wallace for organizing the fixtures, and the team for playing their very hardest all year.

Last but not least, I cannot leave out the supporters who came to support the team at the games and the scorers at the ACAMIS Division 3 tournament.

Thank you very much.
