Learn from China's talented people
LIVING in China (Shanghai) has been an amazing but cold experience for me. When my family and I first came to Shanghai from Malaysia, it was freezing cold.
When I saw people sitting and talking, I always thought they were arguing because they talked so loud and were quite animated (maybe just a bit). But, I guess I just wasn't used to it yet and it is usual for people in Shanghai to speak like that. In restaurants, the dishes come first, the rice last. To me, it is a bit strange and unusual. Usually, the rice comes first in my culture.
However, I'd seen many talent shows on TV and I became really interested. Chinese people came up and did all kinds of activities. They were so talented and amazing! If you thought hard enough you could think how hard they worked on making their acts perfect and not one of them gave up. We should all learn from them.
What I really like about the city are the tall buildings. I sometimes love to stop and watch the construction workers do their work. I sometimes see them when they cross the road, with our car having to avoid them. Once, I went on a holiday, after two months, the next compound's renovation was nearly done. That's why you can tell Shanghai is a fast developing city.
Having lived here for a while now, I have become friends with some of the Chinese local children. It has been fun to have a variety of friends and to learn more about their culture. They often have to leave in a hurry because they spend almost all their time studying and taking after-school activities.
I'm happy here, although naturally I do get a little homesick about the fresh green tree smell after it rains. Shanghai is a very modern city and such an exciting one too. I hope, as I stay here, this city continues to grow and develop and become an even better place to live.
