Living abroad helps us know and share the world
PEOPLE travel abroad for many reasons. Some people move overseas for business or industry and some people live overseas in order to study. Why do people want to live abroad rather than residing in their own country?
Firstly, it is possible to learn other languages in a foreign country. It is important for people to learn more than one language because there are many different types of jobs in which people could use these language skills. For example, you could be a translator for a newspaper or you could be a great diplomat for your country. Being able to speak a number of different languages creates opportunities later in life. Living in a country enables you to immerse yourself in a language and the school ensures you follow a good study program.
Secondly, we can experience different cultures in different countries. By experiencing different cultures, a person becomes open-minded and that will help them understand differences in many countries. At the British International School there are pupils from all over the world. Pupils are encouraged to work together and to overcome cultural differences. It's possible to take part in many different types of activities, in school and in the community, making friends and working with people you would otherwise never meet.
Finally, we can have global friends. People always say friends are the most important and precious because they can always be with you. Global friends are better - if you travel to other countries that are not English-speaking places, then you can ask for help from your friends. Friends can share information and give advice.
As mentioned above, many people go abroad for many reasons and that can lead to many advantages for people. Although it is fabulous, you should not forget your own cultural identity, as this is what ensures the diversity in an international setting such as that at the British school.
