Model United Nations at Dulwich College Shanghai
MODEL United Nations (MUN) is a simulation where students assume the role of a representative of a country or organization on the various United Nations committees.
The ultimate goal of Model United Nations is to promote awareness in international relations and global issues, and to inspire global-mindedness and an understanding of the problems and solutions the nations of the world face today.
Our students debate issues such as human rights, international peace and environmental awareness. They attend a number of MUN Conferences throughout the year, where they are provided with the opportunity to share their ideas and views with other students from a wide range of schools and different ethnic backgrounds.
Our students spend many weeks prior to a conference researching and developing in-depth knowledge and understanding on an issue, for example, developing global environmental protection policies which are compatible with economic growth or recovery. The students are assigned a particular country or organization and prepare their position paper and resolution, which they will present at the next upcoming conference.
MUN Conferences are exciting and fun events but extremely tiring and challenging for the students. It is wonderful to see young people becoming totally immersed in representing their country and passionately arguing and debating the important issues and possible solutions to overcome the problems the world faces today and in the future.
Through participating in MUN our students have the opportunity to not only learn about the various countries they represent, but also engage contemporary issues on the forefront of the world stage.
