Pros and cons of the online learning experience

The technology required to allow online learning is something we should not take for granted.

There are many different views about online learning. One student Ka鈥橪a Lawson claims, 鈥淢y online learning experience as a student has been very stressful and irritating.鈥

Savanah Tomasko added, 鈥淭he teachers stopped thinking about how stressful it can get when they pile up work.鈥

There are, of course, pros and cons to everything. Studying to the best of their ability requires students to be comfortable. Online learning provides flexibility, so that students can continue to learn from the comfort of their own home. Some teachers argue that online learning is beneficial because it helps students learn how to study at their own pace. Lastly, online learning is convenient. All you need for an online lesson is a device and stable Internet connection. You can attend lessons from anywhere in the world. This helped many students continue their education while a pandemic raged.

Those students who have been increasingly stressed due to online learning may have other reasons for their stress. For example, 61 percent of 13-to-17-year-old kids say they are under a lot of pressure to produce good grades. Furthermore, 66 percent reported 鈥渙ften or always worried about being accepted in their chosen college.鈥

Perhaps when we blame online learning for being stressful, we need to look more at the underlying pressures students are facing.

Overall, everyone involved in education needs to focus not only on grades and progress, but also on their physical and mental health.
