Reflecting on the past and embracing new challenges

Another fantastic academic year is coming to a close, and with it comes a period of reflection. This can be especially true for those students who are graduating, as they look back at their time in primary school.

Graduation is a time when we usually look back on what has been, and appreciate what has been special about our experience. It sometimes means an ending of something; however, the Year 6 graduation ceremony at YCIS Pudong does not have this sense of ending, but rather of a new beginning.

Of course, some students will be leaving us as they repatriate back to their home country or relocate to a new country, as is commonplace among the international community of Shanghai. However, our graduation ceremony is more of a time when we look ahead and prepare for the next stage in our learning journey.

Secondary school brings new challenges, and also the chance for new beginnings. Some friends may move back home, but the opportunity is there to make new friends. There may be a certain sense of trepidation, but with it, that sense of excitement in facing the unknown.

We have prepared our students for this change, not just in Year 6, but also throughout their time in primary school. We have educated children in more than just fundamental academics: We have provided them with the skills needed to be successful in their next stage of learning.

So, as the academic year comes to a close, remember that it really is not the end. It is merely another step on our journey as life-long learners.
