SMS shines a light on student interest groups

Student Media Services (SMS) is an organization that serves Concordia International School Shanghai through technological means, such as video production, posters, and animation projects. SMS is an umbrella organization of different student interest groups, each focusing on a specific aspect of media production. Although the number of the interest groups changes every year, as of September 2017, we have nine SIGs and a total of 65 students involved from high school only.
The reason I love SMS is because it combines two of my favorite things: music and peer mentoring. Though I overlook the organization as a whole, managing forms, tasks, and other executive matters, I also have the opportunity to compose music and share that passion with others. Through leading the Music Production group for two years, and continuing it this year, I am able to, not only, compose my own music, but to help others grow as composers. As a group, we were able to provide authentic music for SMS video productions and school concerts.
Since I do have an executive role in the organization, I tend to focus on general SMS celebration events. Every year SMS starts with an orientation event, that peaks students鈥 interest and encourages them to explore what SMS has to offer. Each time our Executive Committee meets to plan the next school year, we look for more: more projects, more service.
This school year, we are excited to dive into those projects that need more light. In the coming months, we are looking forward to completing the TRIBES video, support Phoenix Fridays and APACs through streaming or documenting. I am excited for what will be in store for SMS in the future, and I hope the school community will have an opportunity to experience the benefits of SMS!
