Surreal experience in class
I had enjoyed creating artworks since I was a child. When I was in lower school I attended art classes but they were about doing what I wanted rather than learning or developing skills. However, I liked them as I remember I could express my emotions and thoughts through a drawing or painting instead of written words.
When I chose IB Visual Arts I was anxious because I had almost no experience with basic art media and art tools. I didn't know about art movements or classic artists. In the beginning I regretted not spending enough time to learn some skills before joining this course. Initially, I thought I had made a wrong choice.
That feeling started to change after a few months in the class when I began gaining knowledge and skills. Even though I was not fully satisfied with my first results, I slowly learned how to organize my thoughts to express my ideas. I looked for more inspirations such as artists, artworks, mediums and techniques that could portray on paper what I saw in my head. Instead of concentrating on the enhancement of my technical skills, I focused more on developing my ideas into creative expressions.
Surrealism and impressionism were my personal preferences, and became the main styles of my works titled "Dreaming City and Evanescent." I enjoy surrealism, because it is a concept of abnormality that violates the law of nature in the real world. On the other hand, I like impressionism due to its vivid colors and bold expression.
After almost two years, I can truthfully say that I have enjoyed my experience in IB Visual Arts. It was an opportunity for me to discover another possibility within myself. I am satisfied to witness my improvements expressing, organizing and understanding the creative process. I will look forward to find time in my future to continue with this great art experience!
