When a school leaves a legacy of enthusiasm for its students

"WHICH school did you go to?" is one of the most asked questions during the first week of a university course. For some students, there is an easy answer but for others, it can be the start of a long and exciting conversation as they talk enthusiastically their experiences in Shanghai as a former student of the British International School, Pudong.

They may find themselves spending hours talking to new-found friends about the excitement of living and learning in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, in a country that is leading the way in manufacturing and global economic recovery. Whatever their personal stories, they all look back at a challenging and positive learning experience in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at BISS Pudong.

As the senior students of the school sit their final examinations for the IB Diploma, they will be looking forward to success and a new educational adventure at university where they can entertain their friends in the same way that BISS students did last year. There is a big challenge for this year's IB students to maintain the 100 percent pass rate set last year at BISS Pudong.

Every child is different and each has a different ambition in life. Choosing the right course, at the right university is a difficult decision with so many opportunities available.

Teachers and advisors guide BISS students in their choices, to make sure that they achieve the most for their next step in undergraduate studies prior to entering the world of work.

Some of its former students have decided to stay in China and polish up their Mandarin language skills at Fudan University. Students plan to use these linguistic skills when they start work after their degrees.

Others have gone to the far reaches of the world. Nearly half of last year's cohort decided to study in the UK to read from the alphabet of courses available. Former BISS students have begun courses in a wide range of subjects, from art to zoology, history to physics, engineering to veterinary science.

Some students went back to their home countries while others decided to continue their international education experience in a new region of the world.

BISS Pudong graduates are spreading their intellectual and academic excellence as independent and self-motivated learners as far afield as Australia, America, Asia and Europe.

This year's graduates will be travelling a similar path in search of their dreams for the future. Some will take a gap year before returning to academic study while others will press ahead with their learning. Whatever route they take, we can be confident that their BISS experience has placed them in a strong position for success.
