YCIS help students grow in activities

I FIRST came to Yew Chung International School of Shanghai in Year 5, six years ago. I did not speak a word of English but was fluent in French and Chinese.

One of the main reasons I came to YCIS was that the school welcomes students with no English experience. But through a four-level system and six months of hard work, I became fluent in a completely new foreign language.

At the school, I have experienced an array of new classes, learning so many new skills. The teachers are focused and professional.

The academic curriculum is excellent, and we are also lucky to have access to many cocurricular activities, ranging from a large variety of sports to performing arts.

When I leave YCIS Shanghai, I will miss the fact that next to the great academic learning, the school also emphasizes the importance of other activities, giving students a perfect balance.

One of my biggest passions is theater and performing arts.

Every year, we have a school performance, alternating between musicals and plays. Over my time at YCIS Shanghai, I have participated in “Oliver Twist,” “The Wizard of Oz” and many more unforgettable shows. The opportunities for theater are great, with shows every year and many smaller activities connected to the performing arts.

I am also a sports fan. There are many different sports available throughout the year at YCIS.

I joined approximately four different sports activities every year, including volleyball (and I got to play the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools tournament this year), basketball, touch rugby and ultimate frisbee.

There are so many other sports available for all ages and all skill levels — something that is truly unique to YCIS.

I have made lifelong memories here and met people who have helped and inspired me greatly throughout my amazing years at the school.

So, thank you, YCIS Shanghai!
