A musical journey to nature: digitally
DON’T know where to go for the May Day holiday? The iconic Spring Wave Sunset Electronic Music Festival is set to kick off in Shanghai for the first time, on April 30 and May 1.
Musicians such as Belgian DJ Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, as well as many other famous artists are scheduled to perform.
Since its debut in Taipei in 2015, Spring Wave has emerged as a rising star. It may not be biggest event but it has always provided the audience a feast of surprises.
Shen Guangyuan, founder of event organizer Friendly Dog, believes electronic dance music is the sound of future.
“Even though China is the latest to dive into such market, it has great potential and is set to significantly grow in no time,” Shen says.
Indeed, music festivals have been proliferating in China. Roughly 26 electronic dance music festivals were held last year in different cities from Shanghai to Kunming.
Different from other festivals, Spring Wave focuses on recreating the vibe of nature. Shen, who says he is deeply spiritual, wants to take the audience on a journey where they would feel at one with the universe.
That’s why the 360-degree panorama stage has been designed to extend to the audience area, surrounding the audience with LED screens to present a surreal 3D effect.
Shen hopes people will feel the strength of the sound waves and the tranquility and beauty of nature at the same time.
