Chen Peiqiu ink-wash exhibition

AN exhibition featuring nearly 45 ink-wash paintings created by Chen Peiqiu is currently on display at A Zenith Art Center through September 17.

Born in 1923 in Nanyang, Henan Province, Chen is one of the most famous ink-wash artists in China.

The exhibition showcases Chen’s small-sized paintings.

Chen showed an early interest in art, but unlike many of her contemporaries who gravitated toward Western realism, she became fascinated with traditional Chinese art.

Chen saw the Song Dynasty (AD 690-1279) as the golden-age of ancient Chinese art. She thus engaged herself in copying the flower and bird paintings from this period. After decades of study, she developed her own signature color and free-hand style, one which also references the lights and darks seen in Western Impressionism.

Date: Through September 17, 10am-5pm

Venue: A Zenith Art Center

Address: 433 Yanan Rd W.
