FINE works of ancient Chinese crafts

The ninth Shanghai Antique and Artwork Exposition will kick off at Shanghai East Asia Exhibition Center on April 22.
The four-day event features a high-end display of antiques. Covering 5,800 square meters, the display area has 200 booths.
Antiques run the gamut: jade and precious stone carvings, jewelry, ink-wash paintings, bronzes, ceramics, furniture and gilded Buddhas.
The artworks come from all over China, including Beijing, Xiamen and Shenzhen. Some are from private overseas Chinese collectors.
The spotlight of the fair goes to a gilded Buddha that dates back to the 12th century. The standing Buddha with closed eyes and folded hands on a lotus-shaped bottom is a great example of the craftsmanship of sculpting in ancient China.
Another highlight is a set of “treasures of the study” made of jade from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD).
The set consists of two pens, a pen holder, two carpal pads, an inkstone and a stamp.
Besides the main venue at Shanghai East Asia Exhibition Center, a satellite exhibition will also be open on the 8th floor at Shanghai Yunzhou Antique Center.
The exhibition features the paintings and calligraphy created from a cluster of famed traditional painters such as Zhou Jingsheng and Shen Peixin. A shuttle bus arranged by the organizer will transport the visitors between the main venue and the satellite venue.
