French DJs, jailhouse at Bar Rouge

BAR Rouge has some of the city's biggest parties planned for September with the crowd at the swanking Bund watering hole planning an eclectic range of themed parties.

With a line up of visiting French DJs, a jail house themed party planned and a new award recognizing it as one of the world's finest clubs under its belts, Bar Rouge is roaring back into life after a summer hiatus.

Kicking off the autumn party season will be the King of Club party on Saturday.

The King of Club concept has become one of the most popular parties in Europe and includes so-called club breakers DJ Snake, DJ Mercer, DJ Psar who are part of a new generation of exciting French DJs.

They have produced and remixed a range of renowned artists such as David Guetta, Pitbull and Big Ali and have released three "King of Club: compilations."

Each of the DJs will take up residency at the club for a month, giving club goers the chance to see their wide array of moods and musical influences which has made them a hit at their previous residencies at hot clubs around Europe.

The first DJ to spin his magic will be DJ Mercer and there is a 100-yuan door charge.

Club Manager Antoine Khan says the club has had some of the city's biggest parties in the first half of the year and they want to keep the momentum going with a range of special events in the next few months.

"What we do is provide a great environment with good cocktails, good service, good music and good people and we want to provide a lot of surprises," he says.

"What I want to do is surprise them. They don't want to come to the same venue every night and see the same people so we will be having a different party during the weekend from September to December."

The club has made a mark beyond just Shanghai, winning a major club award joining the "World's Finest Club," a renowned network of exclusive clubs and members clubs from around the world.

Clubs include the VIP Room in Paris and Luxx in London.

Bar Rouge and Block 8 in Beijing are the only Chinese clubs to have won the award.

A special party to celebrate the award will be held on September 24.

The bar will also be transformed into a prison for the second version of the popular Jail House concept.

On Saturday the bartenders will become "prisoners" and dancers will prowl the crowd as sexy prison guards. If club goers misbehave and why wouldn't they, they will be subjected to a particular Bar Rouge punishment.

Strapped into a specially designed shooters "electric chair" it will be time to take a shot to atone for their indiscretion.

The dress code is mafioso, escort, prisoner or cop and there is a 100-yuan cover charge.
